The Natural history museum is located in the commune of Calci, at 10 km from Pisa. This museum was moved here in 1981 by the University of Pisa. The collection contains among others artifacts purchased in the 16th century as a collection of curiosities connected to the Giardino dei Semplici. It now houses one of the largest collection of cetaceans skeletons in Europe, while halls dedicated to dinosaurs are being set up.
